It is a new item added on 2 September 2016. It is used to call an NPC, for example, Crazy Jim, the Operator.
Players can only access a Telephone from a 3-tile distance. Attempting to wrench the phone from a longer distance by wearing certain items that increase the player's build range, such as the [[Exquisite Trowel]], will result in a message saying, "''The phone cord doesn't reach that far!''"
