If you click it it will show your friends that are online and offline and the ones who you ignored
You are only allowed to add up to 200 friends.

Friend Menu
When you press an online friend's name, You will see several buttons. A unfriend button, And a "Warp to location" button. The message button is only shown when the friend makes his location public, So does the Warp button.
Offline/Ignored Menu
This shows where your offline friends and ignored Growtopians are. When you press on a friend/Growtopian, You will only see 1 button. For friends, You see a unfriend button. For ignored Growtopians, You see a unignore button.
