The Nyan Hat is a headgear item released on the 7th of March 2013 in a server update, and replaced by the Taco Dog on the 7th of May 2013 to avoid a potential lawsuit. It was one of the most expensive store items in the game, going for 25,000 gems alongside the Tiny Horsie, and it was also the first item to go for said price. The hat leaves a pretty rainbow trail behind the player when walking.
The hat is based off of the popular Nyan Cat Internet meme, a video featuring a flying cat with the body of a Pop-Tart and trailing a rainbow behind it.
Not to be confused with Phonecats Hat, a similar player-specific hat with the Pop-Tart replaced with a tablet. It is speculated that the high demand for the Phonecats Hat is what lead to the creation of the Nyan Hat.
Copyright Issues
The Nyan Hat was replaced by the Taco Dog to avoid getting a lawsuit for copyright infringement, in light of the copyright owner suing Warner Bros. for the unauthorized usage of the character. The Taco Dog was suggested by users, but it was later found out that the Taco Dog design was also copyrighted. A poll has been posted on the RTsoft Forums by Hamumu, asking the community what they want it to be replaced by.[1] The design has yet to be changed.
