Kentucky Derby 2022 is an upcoming in-game racing event, based on an annual real-life horse race with the same name. Unlike the past Kentucky Derby events, which had been held by former voluntary moderator Aimster, this incarnation of the event is hosted by other members of the staff.
Aimster first announced that she was retiring from her position as a moderator on April 7, 2022.[1] Speculation soon arose as to whether the event, which had been held on her own initiative since 2013, would be cancelled for good.
On April 11, 2022, Ubisoft Abu Dhabi's staff member @Hufflewitz broke down the silence, assuring players that the Derby would still be hosted by members of the staff.[2] Voluntary moderator @Sabaei soon posted a race world submission thread on the Growtopia Forums,[3] officially announcing the beginning of Kentucky Derby 2022.
World-building Contest
A world-building contest is held throughout April as a preliminary to the actual racing event. The deadline for world submissions is set at 00:00 on Saturday, April 30. By submitting their own race worlds through a forum thread,[3] players in the community will get a chance of having their worlds selected as the official race worlds during the Derby. 20 race worlds will be selected from the pool of entries. The players who have built each of these worlds will also be given a Mint Julep.
