The lava block is one of the 4 common blocks when starting a world. The lava block is found near the bottom layer of the world, and is one of the two blocks that can kill/harm a player.
The lava block, when touched, launched the player a few blocks up and to the side. The lava block does little damage and is rarely fatal (Unless one falls into a pit full of them or attempts to walk on a walkway of them)
