- The Salmon of Knowledge is based on a mythical creature of the same name in Irish mythology. In the tale of The Boyhood Deeds of Fionn, the eponymous salmon was said to have eaten nine hazelnuts that fell into the Well of Wisdom, thus gaining all the world's knowledge.
