{|class="article-table mw-collapsible" border="0" cellpadding="1" cellspacing="1"
When it was first released on May 1, 2019, the Mutant Kitchen event was known as Totally Gross. The first and only Totally Gross event lasted from May 3, 2019 until May 5, 2019.

Due to the lukewarm player reception, the developers soon proposed a revamp to Totally Gross. Days after the first event had ended, a survey was sent out to players through Twitter and the Growtopia Gazette. The survey read as follows:

The survey contained only one question and three preset answers for players to choose from.

Question: How do you see the future of Gross-Out?
*Keep (and tweak) Gross-Out! - We love all the slime and ickiness, like the Riding Poo, Bugs, Worms, Puggly Pups, Fly Heads, and Brain Blocks – just make them easier to get!
*Shift things around a little with Mutations! - Tone down the gross but keep it weird with items like Extra Arms and Eyes on Stalks while adding strange new things like Mutant Eyes, Tentacle Feet, Claw Hands, and more!
*Give us a complete change-up with Food Fight! - We don’t want weirdness at all – give us tons of food-themed fun with things like Riding Cupcakes, Frosted Feet, Croissant Blocks, Rainbow Buttercream Hair, and more!

Based off the popular vote, Totally Gross was rebranded two months later as Mutant Kitchen on July 26, 2019. Moreover, the Mutant Kitchen update made several items deemed "too gross" unobtainable, and replaced them in the loot tables with new items.

A balancing change was released on November 12, 2019 in order to address further flaws regarding the event, and cooking as a whole.

As part of multiple small monthly event revamps, an update to Mutant Kitchen was added on August 1, 2021. The items themselves are obtainable since August 6, 2021, the day Mutant Kitchen arrived.

Mutant Kitchen (previously named Totally Gross) is a randomly-occurring three-day monthly event introduced as part of the Gross-Out update on May 1, 2019. In this event, players can stuff themselves with mutant food, which will earn them exclusive prizes when consecutively consumed.

Update History

When it was first released on May 1, 2019, the Mutant Kitchen event was known as Totally Gross. The first and only Totally Gross event lasted from May 3, 2019 until May 5, 2019.

Due to the lukewarm player reception, the developers soon proposed a revamp to Totally Gross. Days after the first event had ended, a survey was sent out to players through Twitter and the Growtopia Gazette. The survey read as follows:

Hello Growtopians!

We’ve gathered a lot of feedback from you about last month’s update, Gross-Out, and after reviewing it, we’ve come up with some interesting ideas to make it more fun and we want YOUR vote to help us decide what to do with it next! One is to keep it as-is, but rebalance things a little to make it easier (and cheaper) to explode for gross prizes. Another is to tweak the balancing AND change the items to be a little less gross, but keep the weirdness with strange new Mutations! Finally, another option is to go in a completely different direction with a balancing change-up and a total item alteration, focusing on food-themed items and explosions in an all-out Food Fight!

Let us know what you’d prefer in the poll below!

Survey

The survey contained only one question and three preset answers for players to choose from.

Question: How do you see the future of Gross-Out?

 • Keep (and tweak) Gross-Out! - We love all the slime and ickiness, like the Riding Poo, Bugs, Worms, Puggly Pups, Fly Heads, and Brain Blocks – just make them easier to get!
 • Shift things around a little with Mutations! - Tone down the gross but keep it weird with items like Extra Arms and Eyes on Stalks while adding strange new things like Mutant Eyes, Tentacle Feet, Claw Hands, and more!
 • Give us a complete change-up with Food Fight!

Mutant Mixers

There are four types of mutant mixers: Burnt Slime, Putrid Gas, Rotting Sea Goo, and Space Poop. Each mutant food recipe requires a combination of two mutant mixers.

Up to 4 random mutant mixers may be dropped from harvesting a Mutant Mixers Tree, which is made by splicing a Ruined Sign Seed with an Acid Seed. Mutant mixers can also be obtained through purchasing a Bag of Mutant Mixers from the Store for 10,000 gems. Each pack contains 10 of each mixer type, plus 10 Strawberry Slime Blocks.

Basic Mutant Food

There are four basic types of mutant food: Alien Bloodied Brains Strudel, Festering Urchin & Poop Pie, Putrid Gas Filled Blood Maggot Crepes, and Rotting Fish Guts Club Sandwich. As seen below, a basic mutant food can be made from cooking in a cooking oven.
